"I need to make restitution for all my past wrongs before God uses me"
How it sounds in your head: You hurt people. You made messes. You need to go back and fix everything, apologize to everyone, make amends with all of them before you're qualified to move forward. Until you've cleaned up every past relationship and wrong, you're on hold.
"Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus."
-- Philippians 3:13-14Religion's works-based righteousness that requires human cleanup before divine commissioning, making restitution a prerequisite instead of fruit.
You have a mental list of people you hurt, relationships you damaged, wrongs you committed. When you're older, the list is longer and the guilt is heavier. Religion says clean it all up first, and that feels right.
Jesus invited Himself to Zacchaeus' house BEFORE Zacchaeus offered restitution. The offer to pay back those he cheated came AFTER the encounter with Jesus, not before. Jesus didn't wait for cleanup—He initiated while Zacchaeus was still in the tree.
I REFUSE the lie that I must fix my past before moving forward. IT IS WRITTEN that I forget what is behind and press toward what is ahead. Restitution is fruit, not prerequisite. IT IS WRITTEN that there is no condemnation for those in Christ—not for unfixed relationships or past wrongs I can't repair. I am righteous NOW by His blood. I declare that Jesus calls me while I'm still in the tree, not after I've cleaned up. I press forward, and fruit follows.
The Father isn't holding a clipboard of people you need to apologize to before He uses you. He's calling you out of the tree NOW, saying 'Come down—I'm going to your house TODAY. Your restitution will flow from our fellowship, not earn it.'
