"I was a harsh, angry father—my kids' struggles prove God's blessing left."
How it sounds in your head: I ruled the house with an iron fist. Yelled. Used the belt too much. My kids are distant, some struggling with addiction, marriages failed. The generational curse is obvious—my anger damaged them, and God's not blessing the mess I created. Their broken lives prove I disqualified the family line.
"The soul who sins shall die. The son shall not bear the guilt of the father, nor the father bear the guilt of the son. The righteousness of the righteous shall be upon himself, and the wickedness of the wicked shall be upon himself."
-- Ezekiel 18:20Source: Generational curse theology that makes children's outcomes evidence of parental disqualification, ignoring individual free will and God's sovereign grace.
You can list each kid's struggles—the divorce, the addiction, the estrangement. You remember specific moments you exploded, said crushing things, disciplined in anger. The family fractures feel like direct consequences proving God withdrew blessing because of your harshness.
Isaac had a father (Abraham) who literally tried to KILL him on an altar—the ultimate harsh parenting. Yet Genesis 26:12-14 says Isaac 'reaped a hundredfold' and 'became very prosperous'—the BARAK blessing didn't skip him because of traumatic childhood. The blessing flows through bloodline, not emotional health.
I REFUSE the lie that my harsh fathering created generational curse or disqualified family blessing. IT IS WRITTEN that the son does NOT bear the father's guilt—my kids' struggles are their battles, not proof I killed the blessing. Isaac was almost MURDERED by his father yet reaped hundredfold. Christ REDEEMED us from the curse—there IS no generational curse for those in Christ. IT IS WRITTEN that I am blessed and my SEED is blessed—this flows from BARAK covenant, not parenting scores. My anger was real, but the blood of Jesus is MORE real. The family blessing isn't withdrawn because I was harsh—it's GUARANTEED because I'm Abraham's seed through Christ. God is RESTORING what my anger damaged, not reviewing my fatherhood file to revoke blessing.
The Father isn't punishing your kids to prove you disqualified the family—He's running toward each prodigal with the robe and ring, regardless of your parenting style. Isaac thrived despite almost being sacrificed. Your family blessing is COVENANT-based, not behavior-based. He's restoring, not revoking.
