"My mental illness disqualifies me from being used powerfully because I'm too broken."
How it sounds in your head: God uses strong people, stable people, people who have it together. Your depression, your anxiety, your breakdowns—those disqualify you. You're too fragile for His purposes. Get healthy first, then maybe.
"And He said to me, 'My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.' Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in needs, in persecutions, in distresses, for Christ's sake. For when I am weak, then I am strong."
-- 2 Corinthians 12:9-10Greek dualism that separates 'spiritual' people from 'broken' people, denying God's power in weakness.
Christian culture celebrates victory testimonies but rarely honors ongoing struggle. She sees 'strong' women leading while she battles just to get out of bed, making her feel permanently sidelined.
Elijah called fire from heaven, defeated 450 prophets of Baal, then had a complete mental breakdown—suicidal, isolated in a cave, convinced he was the only one left. God didn't disqualify him. He fed him, spoke gently, and IMMEDIATELY sent him to anoint the next kings and prophets.
I REFUSE the lie that mental illness disqualifies me from powerful use. IT IS WRITTEN that His strength is made PERFECT in my weakness. My Father doesn't wait for me to stabilize—He moves IN my fragility. IT IS WRITTEN in 2 Corinthians 12:10 that when I am weak, THEN I am strong because His power rests on me. I am Elijah who heard God in the cave, Paul who boasted in his thorn, David who wrote Psalms from the depths. The BARAK blessing covered Jacob even in his wrestling and wounding. I declare I am USEFUL in my weakness, POWERFUL in my struggle, CHOSEN in my brokenness because HIS GRACE IS SUFFICIENT.
Your Father didn't tell Elijah to pull himself together before serving again. He fed him tenderly, whispered to him in the cave, and sent him out STILL STRUGGLING to anoint kings—because your mess is the exact platform for His miracle-working power.
