"I disappointed God by never fully conquering this sin pattern"
How it sounds in your head: You're 85 and still struggling with the same things - gossip, jealousy, anxiety, whatever your particular thorn is. You thought you'd have victory by now. You've confessed it a thousand times, and it keeps coming back. God must be so tired of you failing at the same thing.
"Who shall bring a charge against God's elect? It is God who justifies. Who is he who condemns? It is Christ who died, and furthermore is also risen, who is even at the right hand of God, who also makes intercession for us."
-- Romans 8:33-34Religious treadmill that measures spirituality by sin elimination, erasing the truth that perfection comes from Christ's blood, not behavior modification.
You've been a Christian for decades and expected to be 'further along' by now. You see the same patterns repeat and feel like you're failing Christianity. Church culture celebrates testimonies of total victory, making your ongoing struggle feel like evidence God is disappointed.
Peter denied Jesus THREE times after years of walking with Him. Yet Jesus restored him completely, asking 'Do you love Me?' three times to match the three denials, and gave him the keys to build the church. Peter's failure didn't disqualify him - it positioned him to lead with humility and grace.
I REFUSE the lie that my ongoing struggles disappoint God. IT IS WRITTEN that it is GOD who justifies me, and Christ makes INTERCESSION for me, not accusation. My righteousness is not based on sin elimination but on the BLOOD OF JESUS that makes me perfect forever. IT IS WRITTEN in Hebrews 10:14 that by one offering He has PERFECTED forever those being sanctified. I am already perfect in His eyes WHILE being sanctified. God doesn't see failure; He sees a daughter covered in Jesus' perfection.
The Father doesn't keep a running tally of how many times you've struggled with the same thing. He sees you through the finished work of the cross, where Jesus said 'It is FINISHED' - meaning your perfection was completed 2,000 years ago, regardless of your behavior pattern.
