"You've already messed up sexually. You're damaged goods now and God can't fully use you anymore."
How it sounds in your head: You crossed lines you swore you wouldn't. Whether it was porn addiction, hooking up, or going further than planned, you feel permanently stained. You hear purity talks and feel like they're for people who still qualify.
"Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new."
-- 2 Corinthians 5:17Source: Religion's scarlet letter theology that makes Jesus's blood insufficient for sexual sin.
Purity culture taught that you're like chewed gum or a crumpled rose if you have sex before marriage. The shame feels different from other sins—deeper, more identity-level.
Rahab was a PROSTITUTE—her profession was sex for money—and God not only saved her but put her in the MESSIANIC LINE. Jesus called her great-great-great grandmother, and Hebrews 11 lists her in the FAITH Hall of Fame.
I REFUSE the lie that sexual sin disqualifies me from God's full purpose and power. IT IS WRITTEN that I am a new creation in Christ—old things PASSED AWAY, all things BECAME new. My past does not define my identity; Jesus's blood defines my identity, and it cleanses from ALL unrighteousness. IT IS WRITTEN that there is NO condemnation for those in Christ Jesus, which means God isn't holding a scarlet letter over my head while religion is. I am pure, holy, righteous, and fully qualified by the finished work of the cross. The BARAK blessing flows through Rahab the prostitute and Judah who slept with his daughter-in-law—my Father's covenant isn't stopped by sexual history. I am clean NOW.
Your Father isn't counting your sexual past against you—He already charged it to Jesus's account 2000 years ago. He sees you as pure as the day you were born, and His plans for you never changed.
