"The pastor's moral failure means everything I learned there was a lie."
How it sounds in your head: He preached on purity while having an affair. She taught on integrity while embezzling. If the messenger was corrupt, how can the message be trusted? Do I have to unlearn everything now? Was any of it real?
"Some indeed preach Christ even from envy and strife, and some also from goodwill: The former preach Christ from selfish ambition, not sincerely, supposing to add affliction to my chains; but the latter out of love. What then? Only that in every way, whether in pretense or in truth, Christ is preached; and in this I rejoice, yes, and will rejoice."

The person who baptized her, who led her to Christ, who married her parents, just got exposed for years of secret sin. It feels like the entire foundation was built on sand, and now she doesn't know what's solid anymore.
Balaam was a corrupt prophet literally hired to curse Israel, tried to do it for money, and his own donkey rebuked him. Yet God put TRUE prophecies in his mouth that are quoted in the New Testament—God's word was pure even through a greedy, compromised vessel.
I REFUSE the lie that a broken messenger means a broken message. IT IS WRITTEN that God used corrupt prophets, murderers, and adulterers to speak His truth, and the Word remained uncontaminated. The pastor's failure is HIS, not mine to carry. IT IS WRITTEN that Christ is preached whether in pretense or truth, and I can rejoice that Jesus is still real even when the preacher wasn't. I stand on the Word itself, which is living and active, not on the character of who taught it. The BARAK blessing is mine by covenant with God, not by association with fallen leaders.
