"Taking medication for depression or anxiety proves I don't really trust God enough."

How it sounds in your head: Other believers quote 'peace that passes understanding' while I reach for a pill bottle. Maybe if my faith were stronger, I wouldn't need chemicals. Am I choosing medicine over miracles? Surely real trust means God alone should be enough.

Luke 5:31

"Jesus answered and said to them, 'Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick.'"

-- Luke 5:31
Enemy whispers: 'Medication proves your faith failed.' BUT IT IS WRITTEN: Luke 5:31—Jesus Himself validated physicians for the sick. Paul told Timothy to take wine for his stomach (1 Timothy 5:23)—a medicinal remedy. Luke, the Gospel writer, was a PHYSICIAN, traveling with Paul and never rebuked for his profession. Your brain produces serotonin, dopamine, and norepinephrine like your pancreas produces insulin. IT IS WRITTEN God gives wisdom to doctors (Exodus 15:26 calls Him 'the Lord who heals you'—sometimes through means). The same Jesus who could heal instantly also made MUD to apply to blind eyes (John 9:6). He's not offended by medical tools.
Quick Truth: LIE: Meds mean weak faith. TRUTH: Jesus validated physicians. Paul prescribed remedies. God used figs to heal Hezekiah. Your brain chemistry is stewarded, not shamed. (Luke 5:31)

Religious pride masquerading as faith, teaching that medical intervention for the brain (but oddly not the heart or pancreas) reveals insufficient dependence on God.

Why this feels true:

He's heard testimonies of people 'healed' by quitting medication, making his continued need feel like second-class faith. His generation was taught to be skeptical of psychiatry, conflating legitimate concern about over-medication with blanket rejection of neurological help.

2 Kings 20:1-7
Hezekiah

When Hezekiah was sick unto death, God sent Isaiah with a promise of healing—but also instructed him to apply a lump of FIGS as medicine to the boil. God's miraculous promise came with a physical remedy, and Hezekiah used both without contradiction.

Speak this out loud

I REFUSE the lie that medication competes with my faith. IT IS WRITTEN that Jesus validated physicians, that Paul prescribed medicinal remedies, and that God healed Hezekiah through both promise AND poultice. My brain is fearfully and wonderfully made with complex chemistry, and stewarding it wisely honors the God who designed it. I am righteous by GIFT, not by whether neurotransmitters function optimally. IT IS WRITTEN there is no condemnation in Christ—not for insulin, not for blood pressure pills, not for antidepressants. I stand under the BARAK blessing that isn't based on my brain chemistry but on covenant. My Father isn't waiting for me to refuse help; He's providing it.

But God actually:

Your Father isn't measuring your faith by your medication count—He's the one who gave humans the intelligence to develop these tools. Like the father ran to the prodigal before any cleanup, He's already running toward you with both supernatural peace AND natural means, delighted to give you whatever brings you relief.
