"My loneliness proves God has abandoned me in old age"
How it sounds in your head: Everyone is gone or busy. My spouse is declining or already passed. My kids have their own lives. Even church feels like watching from the outside. Where is God in this isolation?
"Can a woman forget her nursing child, and not have compassion on the son of her womb? Surely they may forget, yet I will not forget you. See, I have inscribed you on the palms of My hands; your walls are continually before Me."
-- Isaiah 49:15-16Source: Enemy + trauma - the demonic strategy to use natural life transitions to resurrect old wounds of abandonment and project them onto God's character.
The physical evidence is overwhelming - empty chairs, silent phones, Sundays alone. When human presence disappears, it feels like divine presence must have disappeared too, especially when you were taught God works primarily through community.
Hagar, abandoned in the wilderness by everyone, pregnant and alone, encountered God so powerfully she named Him 'El Roi' - the God Who Sees Me. At her most invisible moment, she discovered God had been watching all along.
I REFUSE the lie that loneliness means abandonment by God. IT IS WRITTEN that even if a nursing mother forgets her child, God will not forget me - I am inscribed on the palms of His hands. My name is tattooed on God. IT IS WRITTEN in Hebrews 13:5 that He has said 'I will never leave you nor forsake you' - never means NEVER, not even in the nursing home, not even in the silent house. I am Abraham's seed, covered by the BARAK blessing that promises His presence. The Father hasn't stepped away in my old age - He's pulled up a chair in my loneliest room.
The Father sees every silent meal, every unanswered phone, every Sunday you sit alone. He's not distant - He's present in the exact space others have vacated, running toward you like the prodigal's father, ready to throw a feast in your honor even if you're the only guest.
