"Taking antidepressants means you're relying on pills instead of trusting God."
How it sounds in your head: Real faith should be enough. Abraham believed God and it was counted as righteousness—you believe God but still need chemicals to function? Maybe you're trusting Pfizer more than prayer. What kind of spiritual leader needs a pill to have peace?
"So he went to him and bandaged his wounds, pouring on oil and wine; and he set him on his own animal, brought him to an inn, and took care of him."
-- Luke 10:34False dichotomy between medical intervention and spiritual trust, rooted in religious pride that spiritualizes treatable conditions.
The church celebrates 'miraculous healings' where people throw away medication, making continuing treatment feel like faithlessness. Other men seem to handle stress without medication, making yours feel like weakness.
King Hezekiah was dying, and after Isaiah prophesied his healing, the prescription was a POULTICE OF FIGS applied to the boil. God healed through medicine, not despite it.
I REFUSE the lie that medication and faith are opposites. IT IS WRITTEN that even Jesus's own parable of compassion included medical treatment—oil, wine, and bandages. My antidepressant is no different. God created every molecule in my medication and every receptor in my brain. IT IS WRITTEN in James 1:17 that EVERY good gift comes from the Father—including the gift of medical science. I am Abraham's seed, heir to the BARAK blessing that provides for ALL my needs, including mental health medication. The same covenant that protected and provided for Abraham when he was afraid provides for me. I am NOT trusting pills over God—I'm trusting God WHO PROVIDED the pills. My righteousness is in Christ alone, not in how I manage my brain chemistry.
Your Father doesn't see your medication as competition with Him—He sees it as His provision FOR you. Like He told Isaiah to apply figs to Hezekiah's wound, He's given you medication to heal what's wounded in your brain chemistry.
