"Real spiritual authority requires fasting, prayer vigils, and intense consecration."
How it sounds in your head: The men with breakthrough testimonies always mention 40-day fasts, all-night prayer, radical consecration. I'm trying to balance work, marriage, kids—I don't have time for that level of commitment. Maybe authority is reserved for those willing to pay the price I can't afford to pay.
"And these signs will follow those who believe: In My name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues."
-- Mark 16:17Source: religion creating hierarchy of spiritual authority based on ascetic practices and sacrifice rather than covenant access through Christ.
He sees the testimonies of missionaries who fasted for weeks, pastors who pray four hours daily, warriors who gave up everything for ministry. His 20-minute morning devotional and occasional fast seem disqualifyingly insufficient.
The thief had zero prayer life, no fasting, no consecration, no ministry resume. He'd lived a criminal life and was dying for his crimes. One moment of faith—'Lord, remember me'—and Jesus said 'TODAY you will be with Me in Paradise.' Instant access based on faith alone.
I REFUSE the lie that authority requires extreme religious performance. IT IS WRITTEN that signs follow those who BELIEVE, not those who earn through sacrifice (Mark 16:17). I am saved by GRACE through FAITH, not by works (Ephesians 2:8-9). IT IS WRITTEN that I am blessed with EVERY spiritual blessing in heavenly places in Christ (Ephesians 1:3)—not after fasting 40 days, but RIGHT NOW because I'm IN CHRIST. The BARAK blessing made Abraham wealthy after he LIED twice—covenant blessing doesn't wait for perfect consecration. I have full access to the Father through Jesus' blood, not through my spiritual disciplines. My authority flows from my position as a son, not my performance as a servant. I don't earn what Jesus already gave. I am complete in Him (Colossians 2:10).
The Father didn't put authority on layaway until you complete enough spiritual disciplines to afford it—He gave it freely at salvation as a gift. Right now, He's running toward you saying 'Stop trying to earn what I freely gave—you have full authority NOW because you're My son, not because you've fasted enough.'
