"People will always see me as a junkie, not as who I really am."
How it sounds in your head: My family still watches me suspiciously. Friends from church keep me at arm's length. When I meet new people, I wonder if I should tell them or if they'll find out and reject me. The label follows me everywhere.
"Do not remember the former things, nor consider the things of old. Behold, I will do a new thing, now it shall spring forth; shall you not know it? I will even make a road in the wilderness and rivers in the desert."
-- Isaiah 43:18-19Source: Trauma from rejection and the enemy's accusation that past sin defines present identity despite new creation in Christ.
People's actual behavior confirms the suspicion - parents check your room, friends distance themselves, and the recovery community constantly rehearses your past. It feels like you'll never escape the stigma no matter how much you've changed.
Rahab was a prostitute - her occupation was literally her identifier. Yet God placed her in the MESSIANIC LINE - she's listed in Jesus' genealogy in Matthew 1, not as 'Rahab the former prostitute' but simply as Rahab, honored mother in the line of Christ.
I REFUSE the lie that people's opinions define my identity. IT IS WRITTEN that God says FORGET the former things - He's doing a NEW thing in me. What people remember doesn't matter when GOD has forgotten. IT IS WRITTEN that I am hidden with Christ in God - my identity is IN HIM, not in my past. People called Rahab a harlot, but God put her in Jesus' family tree. The BARAK blessing makes me ABOVE and not beneath - their labels don't stick to me. I am who GOD says I am.
The Father doesn't introduce you by your past - He introduces you as His beloved daughter, righteous and holy. While others are still whispering about who you were, He's shouting about who you ARE in Christ.
