"I'm an addict - that's who I am forever, even if I stop"
How it sounds in your head: Everyone at school says once you're hooked on something you can never really be free. My mom calls me 'her anxious one' like it's my name. Even if I stop biting my nails or sneaking food or whatever, I'll always BE that girl who struggles with it.
"Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new."
-- 2 Corinthians 5:17Enemy label designed to override new creation identity, reinforced by recovery culture making addiction permanent identity instead of temporary condition.
Adults keep saying 'once an addict always an addict' and make people introduce themselves that way for years. Her body feels cravings and her mind obsesses, making the behavior feel like unchangeable DNA rather than something Jesus already broke.
Five failed marriages plus currently living with a man - serial relationship addiction, entire town knew her shame. One conversation with Jesus and she INSTANTLY became an evangelist, identity completely transformed from 'the immoral woman' to 'the one who told us about Christ' with no rehab program.
I REFUSE the lie that addiction defines me. IT IS WRITTEN that I am a NEW CREATION - old things PASSED AWAY. I am not 'addict in recovery' - I am DAUGHTER OF THE KING, seated with Christ in heavenly places. The Abrahamic BARAK blessing flows through my bloodline now, and it protected liars and deceivers, so it crushes every addiction trying to claim my identity. IT IS WRITTEN that whom the Son sets free is free INDEED. I declare INSTANT FREEDOM because the cross already broke every chain 2000 years ago. My identity is LOVED, CHOSEN, FREE.
The Father is running toward you calling you BELOVED, not 'addict' - He sees zero addiction in your identity because Christ's blood washed it completely away. He's throwing a party over your freedom RIGHT NOW, not waiting for you to prove 90 days clean first.
