"My body is too much—I need to be smaller, quieter, less to be acceptable to God."
How it sounds in your head: I take up too much space. My laugh is too loud, my body is developing in ways that feel wrong, I eat too much, I want too much. Good Christian girls are small, quiet, controlled. I need to shrink to be holy.
"I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; marvelous are Your works, and that my soul knows very well."
-- Psalm 139:14Religious culture confused holiness with invisibility, teaching girls that godliness equals smallness.
Every message she receives—from diet culture, purity teaching, and church expectations—tells her that less is more spiritual. Her changing body feels like evidence of being 'too much,' especially when she's told to dress modestly to help boys not stumble.
She didn't shrink or quiet herself to be usable by God—she was a JUDGE over all Israel, a military strategist, a prophet, and a wife. God didn't need her smaller; He used her BOLD, LOUD, and LEADING armies into battle while the male general cowered.
I REFUSE the lie that holiness equals smallness. IT IS WRITTEN that I am fearfully and wonderfully made—a MARVEL, not a mistake. God doesn't need me quieter, smaller, or less. He made me with this laugh, this body, this appetite for life. IT IS WRITTEN that He rejoices over me with SINGING—not over some shrunk-down version, but over ME. I receive the BARAK blessing—favor not based on my size, my volume, or my perfection. I am Abraham's seed through Christ, heir to blessing that covered messy, loud, imperfect people. I am the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus, and I take up EXACTLY the right amount of space.
The Father isn't waiting for you to shrink before He embraces you. He's running toward you with the robe of righteousness while you're still believing you're too much, celebrating your bigness, your loudness, your appetite—because He made you ON PURPOSE, not by accident.
