"Keeping walls up is the only way to protect myself from more pain."
How it sounds in your head: You tried openness and it destroyed you. Now you've got boundaries like a fortress. Nobody's getting in deep enough to hurt you again. Emotional armor isn't dysfunction—it's survival.
"He brought me to the banqueting house, and his banner over me was love."
-- Song of Solomon 2:4Enemy + self-protection religion - Satan convinces you that walls keep you safe when they actually keep you imprisoned, isolated from the very connection that brings healing.
The walls worked. Since building them, nobody's hurt you at that level again. The correlation feels like causation—safety equals distance. Vulnerability feels like volunteering for destruction.
Peter betrayed Jesus three times, then hid behind walls of shame and fear. Jesus IMMEDIATELY sought him out, restored him with breakfast on the beach, and reinstated him to leadership—no probation period, no wall-rebuilding required, just instant restoration to intimacy.
I REFUSE the lie that walls protect me. IT IS WRITTEN that His banner over me is LOVE, and that banner is my protection. I am NOT safer in isolation—I am imprisoned there. My Father's covering is my refuge, not my emotional fortress. I reject the false gospel of self-protection that makes ME my own savior. IT IS WRITTEN that under His wings I find refuge. I am Abraham's seed, and the BARAK blessing breaks every curse of isolation. Walls fall. Wings cover. I choose HIS protection over my prison.
Your Father sees those walls and isn't offended—He's grieved that you're protecting yourself from the very love that would heal you. He's not demanding you drop your guard; He's gently showing you His wings are stronger than your walls, and He's been covering you all along.
