"Forgiveness means letting them hurt me again, so I'll stay angry to stay safe."
How it sounds in your head: If I forgive, they'll think it's okay. If I let go of the anger, I'll drop my guard and become vulnerable to the same pain. My anger is the boundary that protects me.
"Bearing with one another, and forgiving one another, if anyone has a complaint against another; even as Christ forgave you, so you also must do."
-- Colossians 3:13Enemy confusing forgiveness with trust, making anger your shield instead of God's covering.
Anger feels like power when betrayal made you powerless, and forgiveness feels like weakness or permission for re-injury. Every sermon on forgiveness feels like 'let them walk all over you again.'
Brothers sold him into slavery, lied that he was dead, ruined 13 years of his life. Joseph forgave them INSTANTLY when they bowed before him, but he also TESTED them before full restoration. Forgiveness didn't mean stupidity - it meant freedom from bitterness while wisdom set boundaries.
I REFUSE the lie that anger keeps me safe and forgiveness makes me vulnerable. IT IS WRITTEN to forgive as Christ forgave me - and His forgiveness didn't mean no consequences or blind trust. I am a daughter who walks in FREEDOM, not in chains of bitterness. IT IS WRITTEN that vengeance belongs to the Lord - my anger isn't protecting me; it's poisoning me while they live rent-free in my mind. I am covered by the BARAK blessing like Joseph, who forgave his brothers but ALSO tested them before full trust. I declare forgiveness is releasing MY chains to God's justice, not inviting them back into my life. I choose freedom over familiar anger.
Your Father isn't asking you to be a doormat labeled 'forgiveness' - He's the God who gave Joseph the wisdom to forgive his brothers instantly but TEST them before full restoration. Forgiveness frees YOU; boundaries protect you.
