"Keeping walls up is the only way to protect myself from being hurt again."
How it sounds in your head: Vulnerability got you destroyed. Now you've learned—keep people at a distance, share surface-level only, never let anyone close enough to do real damage. It's lonely, but at least it's safe. You control the narrative when you control the access.
"The LORD is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust; my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold."
-- Psalm 18:2Enemy: convinces that self-protection is stronger than God's protection, making isolation feel like wisdom instead of the prison it actually is.
The walls HAVE kept you from experiencing that level of pain again—no one can betray you if they never get close. The correlation between distance and decreased hurt feels like proof that isolation works, even as loneliness hollows you out.
Mephibosheth hid for years in Lo Debar, crippled and afraid, assuming King David would kill him like all royal enemies. But the moment he risked coming out of hiding, David INSTANTLY restored all Saul's lands, gave him permanent place at the king's table, and treated him like a son—everything changed in one conversation because David sought him with covenant kindness.
I REFUSE the lie that walls protect me better than my Father does. IT IS WRITTEN that the Lord is my fortress, my shield, my stronghold—HE is my protection, not isolation. These walls that feel like safety are actually prison bars keeping out the very relationships He's ordained for blessing. IT IS WRITTEN that I am blessed coming in and going out, and the BARAK blessing doesn't require me to hide to be protected. I am a branch in the Vine, and isolation cuts me off from the very flow of life that produces joy. My safety is in HIS nature, not in my defenses. I am Abraham's seed, and the blessing that protected Abraham even when he vulnerably moved to foreign lands protects me in vulnerability now.
Father is standing outside your walls RIGHT NOW, not demanding you tear them down through years of therapy, but offering to BE your fortress so you can step out today. He's already prepared the table of fellowship—people who will honor your heart—and He's inviting you to taste and see that He is good, this very moment.
