"Opening my heart again will only lead to more devastating pain."
How it sounds in your head: You barely survived the last betrayal. At your age, you don't have the emotional reserves to recover from another one. The pain almost killed you. Why would you risk that again? Staying closed is survival, not cowardice. You're protecting what little heart you have left.
"Do not fear, for you will not be ashamed; neither be disgraced, for you will not be put to shame; for you will forget the shame of your youth, and will not remember the reproach of your widowhood anymore."
-- Isaiah 54:4Enemy using past pain as prophecy, making trauma your counselor instead of the Comforter.
The last betrayal's pain was so intense that the thought of repeating it feels unbearable, and at 70+, you fear you lack the resilience to recover again. Self-protection feels like legitimate self-care, not fear.
Job lost everything—children, wealth, health, reputation—and experienced betrayal from his wife and friends. When he opened his heart again to pray for those same friends, God instantly restored DOUBLE everything he lost and gave him seven more sons and three more daughters.
I REFUSE the lie that opening my heart leads to devastation. IT IS WRITTEN that I will not be ashamed or disgraced, and I will forget the shame of past betrayals. God is healing my broken heart and binding every wound RIGHT NOW—not through a long recovery process but through His immediate presence. IT IS WRITTEN that He restores the years the locusts have eaten, and He's restoring my capacity for trust and intimacy in an INSTANT. I walk in the BARAK blessing where God's favor protects my heart in vulnerability. My latter years will see the DOUBLE restoration Job experienced—deeper relationships, greater joy, and complete vindication.
The Father is running toward you with the promise that your next season of openness will bring JOY, not pain. He's not asking you to risk your heart—He's guarding it Himself while introducing you to people who will honor the gift of your trust and love you well.
