"I've been blessed enough already; asking for more is greedy and ungrateful to God."
How it sounds in your head: You've had a good career, a decent retirement account, your health mostly intact. How dare you ask for more when you've already received so much? That's just greed. Be grateful for what you have. There are people with nothing, and here you are asking God for increase like some prosperity gospel charlatan. Contentment is godliness.
"Bring all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be food in My house, and try Me now in this, says the LORD of hosts, if I will not open for you the windows of heaven and pour out for you such blessing that there will not be room enough to receive it."
-- Malachi 3:10Religion teaches that asking for more equals ingratitude, making God's continued provision seem like greed instead of inheritance expectation.
You were raised that you don't ask for seconds until everyone's had firsts, don't take more than your share, don't be the guy who wants the biggest piece. Decades of being the steady provider taught you to minimize your own needs. Now asking God for MORE feels presumptuous, like you're pushing your luck when you should just be thankful you're not worse off.
Isaac sowed in the land and reaped in the same year a HUNDREDFOLD, and the LORD blessed him. He continued to GROW RICHER until he became VERY WEALTHY - he had possessions of flocks, herds, and servants so much that the Philistines envied him. God didn't cap his blessing at 'enough' - He kept increasing it to extravagance.
I REFUSE the lie that asking for more equals greedy ingratitude. IT IS WRITTEN that God opens heaven's windows to pour out blessing until there's not room enough to receive it - overflow, abundance, MORE than enough. My Father's nature is generous increase, not rationed provision. IT IS WRITTEN that I am blessed with the blessing of Abraham, which made him, Isaac, and Jacob increasingly wealthy throughout their lives without apology. The barak didn't stop at 'enough' - it multiplied to abundance. I receive continued increase without guilt, knowing my Father delights in the prosperity of His servants and runs toward me with MORE, not lectures about contentment.
Your Father didn't tell the prodigal 'you've had enough already' when he came home - He piled on the robe, the ring, the sandals, the fattened calf, the PARTY. More kept coming because that's His nature. He doesn't ration blessing like you're on a limited budget. He's the God of SUCH blessing you can't contain it all.
