"Good Christian women should be content with little and never want more"
How it sounds in your head: Proverbs 31 woman was industrious but humble. Ruth gleaned leftover grain and was praised for it. The godly women you admire live simply, shop sales, make do. Wanting more feels like complaining against God's provision. Contentment is the mark of spiritual maturity.
"And the LORD will grant you abundant prosperity—in the fruit of your womb, the young of your livestock and the crops of your ground—in the land he swore to your ancestors to give you."
-- Deuteronomy 28:11Religious teaching that confuses contentment with settling and equates godliness with scarcity
Every women's Bible study you've attended praised simple living and frugality. Women who expressed desires for abundance were subtly shamed as discontent or worldly.
She was already wealthy enough to build an entire guest room addition onto her house for Elisha. God didn't rebuke her abundance—He multiplied it by giving her the son she'd never had. Prosperity positioned her for MORE blessing.
I REFUSE the lie that godly women settle for little. IT IS WRITTEN that the Lord grants ABUNDANT prosperity to His covenant people. I am Abraham's seed through Christ—the BARAK blessing of abundance is mine. IT IS WRITTEN in John 10:10 that Jesus came to give ABUNDANT life. I can be content AND want more, knowing my Father delights in extravagant provision. I receive abundance as a daughter of the King, not a beggar at the gate.
Your Father isn't rationing blessings like a Depression-era grandma saving scraps. He's the Father who killed the fattened calf—the one He'd been PREPARING for celebration—not because His child earned it, but because extravagance is His NATURE when His kids come home.
