"Asking God for abundance is greedy when I should just be grateful for what I have."
How it sounds in your head: Every time I want to pray for something big, I feel selfish. Like, I have a roof and food—who am I to ask for MORE? That feels entitled and ungrateful. I should probably just thank God for basics and not push it.
"Let them shout for joy and be glad, who favor my righteous cause; and let them say continually, 'Let the LORD be magnified, who has pleasure in the prosperity of His servant.'"
-- Psalm 35:27Source: Religion teaching that contentment means never asking for increase and that desire itself is sinful greed.
You've heard 'be content in all circumstances' weaponized to mean 'stop wanting things.' Asking feels like you're not trusting God or being grateful, so you shrink your prayers to safe, small requests that won't make you seem greedy.
Jabez prayed, 'Oh, that You would BLESS me indeed and ENLARGE my territory!' with zero apology for wanting MORE. God GRANTED his request immediately—not because Jabez earned it, but because bold asking pleases God.
I REFUSE the lie that asking for abundance makes me greedy. IT IS WRITTEN that my Father has PLEASURE in my prosperity. I am Abraham's seed, walking in the BARAK blessing that includes storehouses FILLED and surplus to lend. Asking big doesn't offend Him; it delights Him. IT IS WRITTEN to ask that my joy may be FULL. I pray bold prayers and expect abundant answers because my Father is generous, not stingy, and He invites me to ask.
The Father didn't wait for the prodigal to ask—He GAVE the robe, ring, sandals, and party before the son could even suggest he deserved less. Your Father doesn't ration joy; He lavishes it on children who simply come home.
