"I'm powerless over this - that's just how addiction works"
How it sounds in your head: They tell me to admit I'm powerless. That acceptance is step one. That I can't control it and never will. So I guess I'm just supposed to white-knuckle it forever and hope for the best.
"And what is the exceeding greatness of His power toward us who believe, according to the working of His mighty power which He worked in Christ when He raised Him from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly places."
-- Ephesians 1:19-20Source: Recovery theology that emphasizes powerlessness over Christ's resurrection power dwelling within believers.
Every support group starts with admitting powerlessness, and he has felt powerless against temptation before. The system makes powerlessness sound like humility when it's actually agreement with defeat.
Eyes gouged out, enslaved, grinding grain like an animal, hair cut off (source of anointing), completely powerless and humiliated as a blind slave. His hair grew back, he prayed one prayer, and God gave him more power in his death than his entire life - killed more enemies in one moment than his whole career.
I REFUSE the lie that I'm powerless. IT IS WRITTEN that the same power that raised Christ from the dead lives in me. I am not a slave to substances, habits, or appetites - I am a SON with resurrection power in my DNA. The BARAK blessing that was on Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob is on me - a blessing that cannot be stopped by human weakness. IT IS WRITTEN that I can do ALL THINGS through Christ who strengthens me. I don't manage powerlessness - I ACTIVATE THE POWER OF THE HOLY SPIRIT. Greater is He that is in me than ANYTHING in this world. I am not a victim. I am VICTORIOUS.
The Father didn't send His Spirit to help you manage your powerlessness - He sent His Spirit to EMPOWER you with the same force that split seas, raised corpses, and conquered death itself. You're not white-knuckling it. You're connected to the VINE, and the power flows automatically.
