"I need to keep working the steps forever or I'll fall apart."
How it sounds in your head: Your sponsor always said, 'This is a lifelong program. Miss meetings, skip steps, and you'll relapse.' At 87, you're still working steps, still attending, terrified that if you stop the program you'll lose everything. The routine is your lifeline.
"Are you so foolish? Having begun in the Spirit, are you now being made perfect by the flesh?"
-- Galatians 3:3Religious program that replaced Jesus with a system, made recovery about human effort instead of divine rest.
You've seen people leave the program and crash. The structure kept you sober. Without it, what's holding you together? At your age, routine is survival.
They started with the Spirit, miracles happening, freedom flowing. Then false teachers convinced them they needed to ADD WORKS—circumcision, law-keeping. Paul called them FOOLISH for abandoning grace for a system. The Spirit was enough from the start.
I REFUSE the lie that a program holds me together. IT IS WRITTEN that I began in the Spirit and I am perfected by the SPIRIT, not by flesh or steps. Jesus is my sufficiency, not meetings. IT IS WRITTEN that His divine power has given me ALL THINGS that pertain to life and godliness through the knowledge of Him. I don't abide in a program; I abide in the VINE. Apart from Him I can do nothing, but IN HIM fruit is automatic. I rest in FINISHED WORK, not endless effort. The BARAK blessing commands blessing on my life—I don't have to work for it.
The Father isn't impressed by your step count. He's already given you EVERYTHING through Jesus. You're not holding it together—HE IS. You're a branch connected to the Vine; the sap flows whether you 'work' or not.
