"I need accountability partners and check-ins forever or I'll fall. I can't be trusted alone with freedom."
How it sounds in your head: Your sponsor tells you to call every day. Your wife monitors your phone. You have software tracking every click. You feel like a teenager who can't be trusted with car keys. Part of you resents the surveillance, but you're terrified of what you'd do without it.
"Stand fast therefore in the liberty by which Christ has made us free, and do not be entangled again with a yoke of bondage."
-- Galatians 5:1Source: works-based discipleship that puts faith in systems rather than the Spirit, making external control replace internal transformation.
Accountability has 'worked' to keep you in line through fear of exposure. Your past relapses happened when no one was watching, so external monitoring feels like the only thing standing between you and disaster.
This man was so possessed by demons he broke chains, cut himself with stones, lived naked in tombs—utterly out of control. Jesus delivered him INSTANTLY with a word. No follow-up program, no accountability group, no 'stay at the treatment center for six months.' Jesus said 'Go home to your friends and tell them what the Lord has done.' Sent him out FREE, immediately.
I REFUSE the lie that I need perpetual surveillance to stay free. IT IS WRITTEN to stand fast in the LIBERTY Christ gave me—not in a yoke of bondage disguised as accountability. The Holy Spirit inside me is a better safeguard than any software, any sponsor, any system. I am not a parolee on probation; I am a FREE SON trusted by the Father. IT IS WRITTEN I am blessed coming in and going out under the barak covenant—that blessing doesn't require human monitors. Christ didn't free me halfway. I am COMPLETELY free, FULLY trusted, TOTALLY new.
The Father doesn't send you out with an ankle monitor and a curfew. He sends you out with His SPIRIT inside you, His NAME on you, His AUTHORITY backing you—fully trusted because of Jesus, not your track record.
