"I'm powerless over this addiction - I'll never truly overcome it."
How it sounds in your head: Step one says I'm powerless, and honestly, it feels true. I've tried to quit so many times and failed. Maybe I just don't have what it takes to break free, and the best I can hope for is managing it forever.
"I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me."
-- Philippians 4:13Source: World system teaching powerlessness as permanent state instead of the POWER of the Holy Spirit within believers.
Repeated failed attempts create evidence that you can't do it in your own strength, which is true - but the lie says you're STILL powerless even with Christ. It mistakes human inability for spiritual reality.
This man had a LEGION of demons - so violent that chains couldn't hold him, living naked in tombs, cutting himself with stones. One word from Jesus and INSTANTLY he was clothed, in his right mind, sitting at Jesus' feet - complete transformation in ONE ENCOUNTER.
I REFUSE the lie that I'm powerless. IT IS WRITTEN that I can do ALL things through Christ who strengthens me. The same Spirit that raised Jesus from the dead lives IN me - that's not powerless, that's RESURRECTION POWER. IT IS WRITTEN that greater is He who is in me than he who is in the world. I am not white-knuckling sobriety; I am EMPOWERED by the Holy Spirit. The BARAK blessing makes me the head and not the tail - addiction doesn't rule me. I am FREE.
The Father doesn't look at you and see powerlessness - He sees the SAME POWER that raised His Son dwelling in you. You're not trying harder; you're receiving the strength that's already yours as a gift.
