"I'm powerless - I need meetings and sponsors to stay sober."
How it sounds in your head: Step one says you're powerless. You've built your entire recovery around meetings, chips, sponsors, and accountability structures. The thought of losing that scaffolding terrifies you because you believe your sobriety depends on it.
"I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me."
-- Philippians 4:13Source: Recovery philosophy that institutionalizes dependence on programs rather than pointing to the complete sufficiency of Christ's power within you.
The meetings worked when willpower didn't. You've seen people leave the program and relapse. The community feels like the only thing keeping you afloat, and admitting powerlessness felt honest after years of failed attempts to quit.
Samson lost everything - his eyes, his strength, his dignity, enslaved and mocked. In his final moment, he prayed once, and God INSTANTLY restored his strength - he killed more enemies in his death than in his entire life. One prayer, immediate power restoration, no recovery program.
I REFUSE the lie that I am powerless. IT IS WRITTEN that I can do ALL THINGS through Christ who strengthens me. The same Spirit that raised Jesus from the dead LIVES IN ME - that is not powerless. I am grateful for community, but my sobriety does NOT depend on meetings or chips or sponsors. IT IS WRITTEN that His divine power has given me ALL THINGS that pertain to life and godliness. I have RESURRECTION POWER inside me. The BARAK blessing makes me the head and not the tail, above only and not beneath. I am EMPOWERED by the Spirit of the living God.
The Father didn't leave you powerless and dependent on human structures. He placed His SPIRIT inside you - the same power that spoke galaxies into existence. You're not weak - you're INDWELT by omnipotence.
