"I'm emotionally attracted to my coworker; I'm already guilty of adultery in my heart."

How it sounds in your head: You look forward to his messages. You think about him at night. You've already crossed the line in your mind, so you're already an adulteress. Matthew 5:28 says looking with lust is the same as doing it. You're guilty. Your marriage is already ruined in God's eyes.

Hebrews 4:15-16

"For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin. Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need."

-- Hebrews 4:15-16
Enemy whispers: 'You're already guilty; the thought is the same as the act.' BUT IT IS WRITTEN: Hebrews 4:15-16—'We do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points TEMPTED as we are, yet without sin. Let us therefore come BOLDLY to the throne of grace.' Jesus was TEMPTED in all points—including sexually—yet without sin. Temptation is NOT sin. Feeling attraction is NOT adultery. Matthew 5:28 was showing the Pharisees they couldn't keep the law perfectly—it drives us to GRACE, not condemnation. You come BOLDLY, not in shame. The blood covers the thought life, and there is NO condemnation in Christ. Acknowledge the attraction, don't act on it, and run TO the Father, not from Him.
Quick Truth: LIE: Attraction to someone else means I've already committed adultery. TRUTH: Temptation isn't sin—Jesus was tempted too. Come boldly for grace (Heb 4:15-16)

Religious misapplication of Matthew 5:28 as condemnation rather than revelation of need for grace, plus enemy accusation exploiting human attraction.

Why this feels true:

She feels genuine attraction and emotional connection to someone other than her husband, and Matthew 5:28 seems to equate thought with action. The shame feels identical to actual adultery, so she believes she's already fallen.

Genesis 39:7-12
Joseph

Potiphar's wife pursued Joseph daily—not a one-time temptation but REPEATED seduction. He was tempted, propositioned, likely felt physical attraction as a healthy young man. He fled, but Scripture doesn't condemn him for being in a tempting situation—it HONORS him for not acting. Temptation faced doesn't equal sin committed.

Speak this out loud

I REFUSE the lie that temptation equals sin or that feeling attraction makes me guilty of adultery. IT IS WRITTEN: Jesus was tempted in ALL points yet without sin, and I come BOLDLY to the throne of grace to receive mercy and help. Temptation is not failure—it's an opportunity to run TO my Father, not from Him. IT IS WRITTEN: There is NO condemnation for those in Christ Jesus. I am not an adulteress because of a feeling or a thought—I am the righteousness of God. I submit this attraction to the Father, receive His grace, and walk in the POWER of the Holy Spirit. My marriage is covered by the BARAK blessing and is protected by covenant, not by my perfection.

But God actually:

The Father isn't shocked or disgusted by your attraction—He knows you're human, living in a fallen world, with real feelings. He's not waiting for you to prove yourself; He's running toward you with compassion, offering grace and POWER to walk in holiness, celebrating that you're bringing this TO Him instead of hiding it.
