"I abused alcohol for years and hurt people—I'm permanently disqualified from God's best for me."
How it sounds in your head: You were drunk when your kids needed you. You said things you can't take back. You drove when you shouldn't have. You've been sober for years now but the damage is done. God might forgive you but He can't restore what alcohol destroyed. You're living in Plan B.
"So I will restore to you the years that the swarming locust has eaten, the crawling locust, the consuming locust, and the chewing locust, My great army which I sent among you."
-- Joel 2:25Religious teaching that severe sin creates permanent disqualification, and that while forgiven, you forfeit God's 'best' for your life—a two-tier grace system.
You can see the scars in your relationships and your body. Sobriety came, but decades were lost. The idea that God still has 'best' for you feels like wishful thinking when you've already wasted so much prime time.
Noah got drunk and lay naked in his tent—after being the only righteous man who saved humanity. He was the hero of the flood and still ended up drunk and exposed. God didn't revoke the covenant, didn't take back the blessing, didn't say 'well, you were righteous but now you're disqualified.' The rainbow promise stood.
I REFUSE the lie that my years of alcoholism disqualified me from God's best. IT IS WRITTEN that God will RESTORE the years the locust has eaten—not tolerate the leftovers, RESTORE. IT IS WRITTEN that God does exceeding abundantly above all I can ask or think, which means there is no Plan B, no second-tier life for people who wasted time. I stand in the BARAK blessing of Abraham—the same blessing that stayed on Noah after he got drunk and lay naked, on Lot after he got drunk and committed incest with his daughters. My past doesn't determine God's present provision. I am the righteousness of God in Christ, and my Father is a restoration specialist.
Your Father is the God who restored Peter after triple denial and made him the rock of the church. He doesn't categorize His kids into 'those who get the best' and 'those who get the leftovers'—there's only one category: beloved sons who get everything Jesus purchased, regardless of how much time they spent in the pigpen.
