"I'll always be in recovery, never fully free."
How it sounds in your head: Even the adults who've been 'sober' for years still call themselves addicts at meetings. They say you're never cured, just managing it. So I guess this is my life forever—always fighting, never winning.
"Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed."
-- John 8:36Religion replacing finished work of Christ with perpetual process, keeping deliverance always future.
Every recovery model teaches lifelong management, and people twenty years clean still identify as 'in recovery.' If they're not free after twenty years, how could a kid like you be?
Blind beggar on the roadside, everyone's pity case—'blind Bartimaeus' was his full identity to the whole town. One encounter with Jesus and he IMMEDIATELY received his sight, threw off his beggar's garment, and FOLLOWED JESUS—not to 'vision recovery meetings,' but as a completely free disciple.
I REFUSE the lie that I'm permanently in recovery. IT IS WRITTEN that when the Son sets me free, I am free INDEED—completely, totally, permanently FREE. I am not managing bondage—I am walking in LIBERTY. Jesus didn't die to give me a lifetime membership to struggle meetings. He died to make me a NEW CREATION. IT IS WRITTEN in Romans 6:14—'Sin shall not have dominion over you, for you are not under law but under grace.' Not 'sin will have less dominion.' NO DOMINION. I am BARAK-blessed with the same covenant that protected Abraham through his worst mistakes. The Father doesn't see me as 'that kid in recovery'—He sees me as His RIGHTEOUS son who looks exactly like Jesus. I am FREE, and I walk as a FREE man because that's what IT IS WRITTEN.
While recovery programs keep you identifying as 'addict,' the Father is declaring 'FREE SON' over you. He didn't send Jesus to give you better coping strategies—He sent Him to give you COMPLETE FREEDOM, and He's celebrating it right now.
