"I'll always be 'in recovery' — never fully free"
How it sounds in your head: Even 30 years sober, you introduce yourself as 'in recovery.' It's a life sentence. You're never just 'free' — you're always 'recovering,' always one step away, always vigilant. Freedom is a word for other people. You're in permanent recovery mode.
"Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be FREE INDEED."
-- John 8:36Recovery culture that replaces the FINISHED WORK of the cross with an endless process
Everyone in the rooms says it: 'I'm in recovery.' It sounds humble, realistic, safe. Claiming to be 'fully free' sounds arrogant, like you're setting yourself up for a fall. The program teaches 'one day at a time' forever — never just 'done.'
Woman caught in adultery, dragged before Jesus, about to be stoned — guilty, condemned, no defense. Jesus said, 'Neither do I condemn you; go and sin no more.' Not 'go and try really hard' or 'go into a recovery program for adultery.' GO. FREE. CLEAN. No process, no program, no 'recovery phase.'
I REFUSE the lie that I'm stuck in permanent 'recovery.' IT IS WRITTEN that if the Son makes me free, I am FREE INDEED — not free-ish, not in recovery, but FREE. I am not 'getting' free — I AM free. IT IS WRITTEN that I should stand fast in the LIBERTY by which Christ has made me free. The finished work of the cross isn't a process — it's FINISHED. Like the woman caught in adultery walked away with NO condemnation and full freedom, I walk FREE, CLEAN, WHOLE. I am not 'in recovery' — I am RECOVERED, REDEEMED, RESTORED. The Abrahamic BARAK blessing of wholeness and restoration rests on me, and I am FREE INDEED.
Father doesn't see you as 'in recovery' — He sees you the way He saw the woman caught in adultery after Jesus spoke: CLEAN, FREE, RELEASED. No process. No probation. Just 'Go — you're free.' He's not managing your recovery; He's celebrating your FREEDOM.
