"I worked hard for this money — I don't owe God 10% of MY earnings."
How it sounds in your head: You put in 40+ years. You earned every penny through sweat, sacrifice, and smart decisions. This isn't God's money — you worked for it. Tithing made sense in an agrarian culture, but you're not a farmer giving crops. This is YOUR retirement you built.
"And you shall remember the LORD your God, for it is He who gives you power to get wealth, that He may establish His covenant which He swore to your fathers, as it is this day."
-- Deuteronomy 8:18Source: Enemy using pride in work ethic to create ownership mentality that blocks covenant flow.
You literally sacrificed years of your life, worked through pain, delayed gratification, and made disciplined choices to build this retirement. It feels deeply YOURS because you bled for it, and no one handed you anything.
Nebuchadnezzar stood in his palace declaring 'Is not this great Babylon, that I have built by my mighty power?' Instantly he lost his mind and ate grass like an animal for seven years until he acknowledged that God gives and removes kingdoms, power, and wealth — then his sanity and kingdom were restored.
I REFUSE the lie that my work ethic earned what God empowered or that my money is mine independent of His provision. IT IS WRITTEN that God gives the POWER to get wealth, and IT IS WRITTEN that every good gift comes from the Father of lights (James 1:17). I worked hard, yes, but He gave me the strength, mind, opportunities, and breath to do it. The BARAK blessing doesn't flow to those who claim self-made success but to those who acknowledge covenant SOURCE. My tithe isn't payment — it's worship. I honor the Giver behind every dollar.
Your Father doesn't diminish your hard work — He's the One who gave you the capacity TO work, and He's not demanding your money like the IRS. He's inviting you to acknowledge that every breath, every opportunity, every ounce of strength came from Him, and when you honor that, He opens supply you can't work for.
