"I have to eat less or exercise more to earn feeling good about myself."
How it sounds in your head: If you just controlled yourself better, you'd look better and feel better. You have to EARN the right to like what you see. Stop being lazy and weak.
"For every creature of God is good, and nothing is to be refused if it is received with thanksgiving."
-- 1 Timothy 4:4Religious performance mentality applied to body—turning food and exercise into law/works system instead of gift.
You see adults constantly dieting and exercising to 'fix' themselves, so it seems like that's just how life works. Plus, you feel awkward in your body and want some control.
God rained down manna from heaven every single morning—free food they didn't work for, plant, or earn. Those who gathered much had nothing left over; those who gathered little had enough. God's provision was AUTOMATIC and perfectly portioned without them obsessing over it.
I REFUSE the lie that I must earn the right to eat or enjoy my body through punishment. IT IS WRITTEN that every creature of God is good and nothing is to be refused when received with thanksgiving. I don't live under food laws—I live under GRACE. My body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, and He doesn't live in temples built by anxious striving. IT IS WRITTEN that Christ redeemed me from the curse, and that curse includes obsession, control, and fear around food. I receive every meal as a gift from a Father who LOVES feeding His kids.
The Father isn't standing over you with a calorie tracker saying 'Earn it.' He's laying out a feast and saying 'Eat, son—I made this FOR you, not as a test but as a GIFT, because I love watching you enjoy what I provide.'
