"I have to earn the right to eat by exercising or being good."
How it sounds in your head: You mentally calculate calories burned before allowing yourself a meal. If you don't work out, you eat less or skip meals. Food feels like a reward you must deserve. You punish yourself with extra exercise after eating 'too much.'
"Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?"
-- Matthew 6:26Religion + world: Diet culture preaches earn-and-burn; religious thinking says nothing is free, everything must be deserved through effort.
Fitness culture constantly says 'earn your meal' and 'burn off that dessert.' You've internalized that rest is lazy and eating without earning is gluttony. Every app and trainer reinforces this transactional relationship with food.
God rained down bread from heaven every morning for 40 YEARS. They didn't earn it through work—it just appeared. They only had to gather it. God provided BEFORE they did anything, simply because they were His people and He's a providing Father.
I REFUSE the lie that I must earn the right to eat. IT IS WRITTEN that my heavenly Father feeds the birds who don't work for it, and I am of MORE value than they. Food is GRACE, not wages. I don't earn grace—I receive it freely. IT IS WRITTEN that I am blessed in my storehouses and the fruit of my body—not because I worked hard enough, but because I'm in covenant. The BARAK blessing means I am blessed coming in and going out, whether I exercised or not. I receive nourishment as a gift from my Father who loves to feed His children, and I eat with thanksgiving, not guilt.
The Father is setting a table before you—not after you've done enough to deserve it, but simply because you're His child. He's inviting you to feast, not as payment for effort, but as celebration of relationship. He's already prepared the meal; He's just waiting for you to sit down and receive without guilt.
