"Eating is just fuel now, not something to enjoy. Pleasure in food is gluttony."
How it sounds in your head: You read the diet books, heard the sermons on self-control. Food is fuel, nothing more. Enjoying it feels indulgent, sinful even. So you joylessly measure portions and resent every bite.
"Go, eat your bread with joy, and drink your wine with a merry heart; for God has already accepted your works."
-- Ecclesiastes 9:7Religion: Ascetic theology demonizes pleasure, turning God's gift of taste and fellowship into sin.
Gluttony IS a sin, and overconsumption did damage your health. The safest path seems to be removing ALL pleasure from eating, making it purely functional.
Jesus turned water to wine for a wedding feast, and the master of the feast noted it was the BEST wine, served AFTER people had drunk freely. Jesus' first miracle was about abundant celebration and pleasure, not restriction or shame.
I REFUSE the lie that enjoying food is gluttony or that pleasure is sin. IT IS WRITTEN: Eat your bread with joy, drink your wine with a merry heart. God COMMANDS enjoyment, not joyless restriction. IT IS WRITTEN that Jesus attended feasts, celebrated, provided abundantly. I receive food with THANKSGIVING, it's sanctified. I walk in wisdom AND pleasure. Food is God's gift for both nourishment and fellowship. The BARAK blessing covers my table with abundance.
The Father isn't rationing your joy. He's the one who threw the feast for the prodigal with the FATTENED calf—not chicken breast and broccoli. He celebrates you WITH abundance, not after you've earned restriction. Joy is part of the invitation.
