"I had a mental breakdown or battle with depression—that weakness disqualifies me from being strong for others."
How it sounds in your head: You hit rock bottom. Maybe hospitalized, medicated, couldn't get out of bed. Men are supposed to be STRONG, and you proved you're WEAK. How can you lead, protect, or be trusted when everyone knows you cracked under pressure?
"And He said to me, 'My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.' Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in needs, in persecutions, in distresses, for Christ's sake. For when I am weak, then I am strong."
-- 2 Corinthians 12:9-10Source: Toxic masculinity teaching that men must be emotionally invincible, denying biblical reality that every hero had breaking points.
The breakdown was REAL—people saw you at your weakest. Maybe you couldn't work, couldn't function. Strength is supposed to be your identity as a man, and you publicly failed that test. Leadership requires stability, and you proved you don't have it.
Elijah called down fire from heaven, defeated 450 prophets of Baal, then had a complete mental breakdown—suicidal, hiding in a cave, saying 'I want to DIE.' God didn't rebuke him or bench him. God fed him, let him sleep, spoke gently, and sent him back to anoint KINGS. The breakdown didn't end his ministry—it DEEPENED it.
I REFUSE the lie that mental breakdown disqualifies me from strength. IT IS WRITTEN: 'My STRENGTH is made PERFECT in weakness—when I am WEAK, then I am STRONG.' My breaking wasn't failure—it was the death of self-sufficiency. IT IS WRITTEN: 'The LORD is near to those who have a BROKEN heart.' Elijah called down fire from heaven, then had a suicidal breakdown in a cave—God didn't bench him, He fed him and sent him to anoint KINGS. If a suicidal prophet gets promoted, my depression doesn't disqualify me. I am STRONG in Christ. My weakness is the platform for HIS power. I am qualified by BLOOD, not emotional stability.
The Father doesn't see your breakdown as failure—He sees it as the moment you stopped trying to be strong ALONE. He wasn't disappointed—He was RELIEVED you finally let Him carry you. Your vulnerability isn't weakness—it's POWER. You're about to minister to people who need someone who GETS IT. Your breaking made you DANGEROUS to the enemy.
