"I got divorced young, so God won't give me a second chance at marriage."
How it sounds in your head: I failed at the most important covenant. Everyone else gets their fairytale, but I already used up my chance. Maybe God will let me be single and serve Him, but remarriage? That feels like asking for too much after I already blew it once.
"Do not fear, for you will not be ashamed; neither be disgraced, for you will not be put to shame; for you will forget the shame of your youth, and will not remember the reproach of your widowhood anymore."
-- Isaiah 54:4Source: Religious teaching that presents divorce as the unforgivable sin and second marriages as God's 'Plan B' at best.
She watches friends celebrate anniversaries and feels like she's permanently in the penalty box. The shame of divorce feels like a scarlet letter that disqualifies her from the blessing of a godly marriage.
This woman had FIVE failed marriages and was living with a man outside of marriage—a complete relational disaster. Jesus didn't shame her or tell her she was disqualified from love. He offered her LIVING WATER and made her the first evangelist to her city, meeting her in her mess and calling her into PURPOSE immediately.
I REFUSE the lie that my divorce disqualified me from a blessed marriage. IT IS WRITTEN that I will FORGET the shame of my youth and not remember the reproach anymore—God isn't keeping score of my failed relationships. He is RESTORING what the locust ate. IT IS WRITTEN that there is NO condemnation in Christ Jesus—not even for divorce. I am Abraham's seed, heir according to PROMISE, and the BARAK blessing doesn't stop because I made a mistake. God's best for my life isn't in the past. It's ahead of me, and He's preparing something EXCEEDINGLY ABUNDANTLY above what I lost. I am the righteousness of God in Christ, and my future is not determined by my past.
The Father isn't holding your divorce against you like a cosmic grudge—He's holding you like the Prodigal, robe and ring ready. The woman at the well had five failed marriages, and Jesus still offered her living water and a PURPOSE. You think one divorce disqualifies you? He's already writing your redemption story.
