"I can't receive peace because I haven't forgiven everyone who hurt me"
How it sounds in your head: There are people I'm still angry at—family members, business partners, people who wronged me decades ago. I know I'm supposed to forgive to be forgiven. My lack of peace proves I'm holding grudges and God is withholding.
"And you, being dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, He has made alive together with Him, having forgiven you all trespasses."
-- Colossians 2:13Old Covenant teaching applied to New Covenant believers, making God's blessing contingent on perfect human forgiveness.
He feels the bitterness and knows he hasn't 'released' certain people. Sermons about forgiveness make him feel like peace is locked behind a door he can't open because his heart is still hard toward certain people.
The thief on the cross had zero time to track down people he'd wronged, make amends, or work through forgiveness processes. Jesus said 'TODAY you will be with Me in Paradise' based solely on his moment of faith.
I REFUSE the lie that I must forgive perfectly to receive God's peace. IT IS WRITTEN that God has ALREADY forgiven me ALL trespasses—past tense, completed. I don't forgive TO BE forgiven; I forgive FROM BEING forgiven. The BARAK blessing over me isn't conditional on my ability to release bitterness. IT IS WRITTEN: the thief on the cross received paradise with zero time for forgiveness work. I receive peace NOW as a gift of grace, and from that place of fullness, the Father empowers me to release others. My peace isn't earned; it's inherited.
Your Father isn't holding your peace hostage until you perform perfect forgiveness. He gave you peace the moment Jesus said 'It is finished.' He's pouring it over you like oil, whether you've sorted out every old grudge or not.
