"My PTSD and trauma responses prove I never really forgave or let go like Scripture commands."
How it sounds in your head: You've been a Christian for 50 years. If you'd truly forgiven your abusive father, forgiven what happened in the war, you wouldn't still have flashbacks and panic attacks. Your body's reactions prove you're harboring bitterness. You failed to obey the command to forgive and forget.
"Do not remember the former things, nor consider the things of old. Behold, I will do a new thing, now it shall spring forth; shall you not know it? I will even make a road in the wilderness and rivers in the desert."
-- Isaiah 43:18-19Religion's weaponizing of forgiveness, conflating spiritual release with neurological trauma healing, creating shame over involuntary responses.
He's heard countless sermons saying 'forgive and forget,' and his body's continued trauma responses feel like evidence of spiritual failure. Every trigger seems to prove he's not walking in freedom.
After wrestling with God all night, Jacob walked with a permanent limp the rest of his life - a physical reminder of trauma that stayed even after blessing. The limp didn't disqualify him; it marked him as one who'd encountered God and survived.
I REFUSE the lie that trauma responses mean unforgiveness. IT IS WRITTEN that God makes roads in the wilderness - my PTSD is the wilderness, His healing is the road. Forgiveness is a choice I made; my body's healing is on God's timeline, not religion's. I am Abraham's seed under the BARAK blessing, and that blessing covers every trigger, every flashback, every panic attack. IT IS WRITTEN there is NO condemnation for trauma responses beyond my control. I am the Father's beloved son, completely forgiven, walking in freedom even when my nervous system hasn't caught up yet. Jacob limped after encountering God - my limp doesn't disqualify my blessing.
The Father doesn't condemn your body's memory of pain - He's gentle with every trigger, patient with every flashback. He's not waiting for you to 'get over it' before He loves you. He's already running toward you, already celebrating you, already calling you whole while He heals you at the pace your body can handle.
