"Taking psychiatric medication means I'm not letting God be enough for me."
How it sounds in your head: You're basically saying Jesus isn't sufficient. If you really believed His promises about peace and joy, you wouldn't need chemicals. You're choosing pills over prayer. That's weak faith masquerading as mental health awareness.
"No longer drink only water, but use a little wine for your stomach's sake and your frequent infirmities."
-- 1 Timothy 5:23Religion's false dichotomy between medical treatment and spiritual trust, creating unnecessary guilt over God's provision.
He's heard testimonies of people 'delivered' from medication through faith, making his continued need feel like spiritual immaturity. Verses about God's peace feel like condemnation when medication is what actually helps.
When deathly ill, God told Isaiah to apply a lump of figs to Hezekiah's boil - a medicinal treatment. God healed him through MEANS, not despite them. The king recovered IMMEDIATELY once the remedy was applied.
I REFUSE the lie that medication negates God's sufficiency. IT IS WRITTEN that Paul prescribed medicine to Timothy - God uses MEANS. My antidepressant is not competition with Christ; it's part of His provision. I am under the BARAK blessing where healing comes by every method God chooses - prayer, medicine, therapy, all of it. IT IS WRITTEN there is NO condemnation for using the tools God created. I am righteous, whole, and beloved whether my brain regulates serotonin naturally or needs help. God is not offended by chemistry - He invented it.
The Father isn't disappointed that you need medication - He's the one who led you to it. He's not competing with pills for your trust; He's providing them AS His trust-gift. He runs toward you with every tool of healing, begging you to receive His provision however it comes.
