"God is punishing me for past sins with this disability and decline."
How it sounds in your head: You know what you did. The affairs, the anger, the years you wasted. Other men seem fine in their old age, but you're falling apart. Maybe this is karma. Maybe God's getting even. Maybe you're reaping what you sowed, and there's no escape from the consequences.
"But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; the chastisement for our peace was upon Him, and by His stripes we are healed."
-- Isaiah 53:5Religious lie rooted in Old Covenant thinking, denying that Christ took ALL punishment at the cross.
You DO have regrets, real sins, things you wish you could undo. The timing seems too coincidental—this decline feels like payback. Religion taught you that sin has consequences, and this feels like the bill coming due. The guilt is real; the suffering is real; connecting them seems logical.
A literal criminal, guilty of crimes worthy of execution, hanging on a cross next to Jesus. No time to make amends, no opportunity to 'clean up his life,' no chance to earn anything. He simply said 'Lord, remember me' and Jesus said 'TODAY you will be with Me in Paradise.' Instant, complete forgiveness with ZERO payment plan required.
I REFUSE the lie that God is punishing me. IT IS WRITTEN that the chastisement for my peace was upon JESUS—He took every bit of punishment I deserved. There is NO punishment left for me because Christ absorbed it all. IT IS WRITTEN in Romans 8:1, 'There is therefore NOW no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus.' God is not getting even; He's not holding grudges; He's not making me pay. The BARAK blessing covered Abraham even when he LIED repeatedly—how much more does Christ's blood cover me? I am forgiven, cleansed, and FREE from all condemnation. God is not angry; He is running toward me with love.
The Father isn't punishing you—He punished JESUS in your place so He could run to you with arms wide open, no condemnation, no payback. Like He ran to the prodigal who deserved judgment but got a party instead, He runs to you with grace upon grace upon grace, shouting 'FORGIVEN! BELOVED! MINE!'
