"Your chronic condition is God's plan to keep you humble and dependent on Him."
How it sounds in your head: Your back pain, your migraines, your autoimmune disorder—maybe this is your 'thorn in the flesh.' Maybe God is using this to shape your character, keep you from pride, make you more like Jesus through suffering.
"How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power, who went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him."
-- Acts 10:38Source: Religious masochism that baptizes suffering as sanctification, making God the author of disease to explain the absence of healing.
Paul had a thorn. Job suffered. Jesus learned obedience through suffering. The pattern seems biblical—God uses pain to produce godliness. Your condition hasn't killed you, so maybe it's refining you.
Invalid for thirty-eight years—longer than you've been alive, longer than your entire career. No one to help him into the pool, hopes repeatedly crushed. Jesus asked, 'Do you want to be made well?' The man explained his limitations. Jesus said, 'Rise, take up your bed, walk.' IMMEDIATELY he was made well.
I REFUSE the lie that my chronic condition is God's plan to humble me. IT IS WRITTEN: Jesus healed ALL who were oppressed by the devil—sickness is oppression, not sanctification. God doesn't need to make me sick to keep me humble; the cross already crucified my pride. IT IS WRITTEN: He Himself took our infirmities and bore our sicknesses. My condition was laid on Jesus 2,000 years ago. I am under the BARAK blessing where 'the Lord will take away from you all sickness.' I am healed, whole, and free—not someday, but NOW.
The Father didn't give you disease to build your character—He gave you His Son to destroy disease. He's not using your pain to teach you; He's aching to heal you. The Jesus who spent His entire ministry undoing sickness didn't suddenly change His mind and decide your condition is beneficial.
