"Wanting financial freedom is materialistic. Spiritual people shouldn't care about money."
How it sounds in your head: Real Christians are supposed to be focused on eternal things, not earthly things. If I'm thinking about money, that means I'm carnal and worldly. Spiritual people are above caring about finances.
"Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers."
-- 3 John 1:2Religious Gnosticism that divides spirit and matter, calling poverty spiritual and provision carnal.
He's heard 'store up treasures in heaven' twisted to mean don't have treasures on earth. Sermons about 'loving money' make him feel guilty for wanting financial stability.
Abraham was 'very rich in livestock, in silver, and in gold' AND called the friend of God. His wealth didn't disqualify him from relationship with God - God GAVE him the wealth as part of the covenant blessing.
I REFUSE the lie that wanting financial freedom is unspiritual. IT IS WRITTEN that John prayed for prosperity in ALL things - finances included. Jesus had a treasurer. Abraham was rich AND God's friend. Money is not the enemy - the LOVE of money is. IT IS WRITTEN that God gives me power to get WEALTH to establish His covenant. Provision is not carnal - it's COVENANT. The BARAK blessing includes being blessed in my storehouses, lending to many nations, being above and not beneath. I am Abraham's seed, and his blessing is MINE - including financial abundance. Spirituality doesn't mean poverty. It means stewarding Kingdom resources for Kingdom purposes. I receive financial freedom as a GIFT, not a compromise. My Father owns the cattle on a thousand hills, and He's not stingy with His sons.
Your Father is running toward you with the signet ring - the symbol of ACCESS TO RESOURCES. He's not testing your spirituality by withholding money. He's releasing provision because you're His son, and sons have access to the family wealth.
