"I should just be grateful for what I have and stop wanting more."
How it sounds in your head: Every time I desire increase, I hear 'be content' echoing in my head. I guilt myself into silence, pushing down dreams of more because gratitude and ambition feel mutually exclusive. Wanting more sounds like ingratitude for what is.
"I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt; open your mouth wide, and I will fill it."
-- Psalm 81:10Religion weaponized contentment to keep you small and accepting of lack.
You've been told 'godliness with contentment is great gain' and 'be satisfied with what you have,' making any desire for increase sound like spiritual failure. Wanting more has been painted as evidence you're not grateful enough.
The widow was grateful for the little oil she had, but when she obeyed Elisha and gathered MANY vessels, God FILLED them ALL until there were no more vessels left. Her willingness to desire MORE resulted in overflow—all her debt paid with surplus to live on.
I REFUSE the lie that I should stop wanting more! IT IS WRITTEN to open my mouth WIDE and God will FILL it. My Father isn't threatened by big desires—He INVITES them! I can be grateful for what I have AND hunger for increase. IT IS WRITTEN that God is able to do EXCEEDINGLY ABUNDANTLY above all I ask or think. The BARAK blessing has no cap, no limit, no ceiling. I receive increase with gratitude and ask for more with confidence!
Your Father didn't tell the prodigal to be grateful for the pig slop—He RAN toward him with abundance! He's not asking you to shrink your desires; He's preparing overflow because generous Fathers delight in giving MORE, not just enough.
