"I should feel guilty for not giving away everything I have—keeping anything for myself is hoarding."
How it sounds in your head: You hear about the rich young ruler who walked away sad and wonder if every dollar you keep is disobedience. Maybe you're supposed to give it ALL away. Saving feels like hoarding. Spending on yourself feels like failing the test Jesus gave him.
"But if anyone does not provide for his own, and especially for those of his household, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever."
-- 1 Timothy 5:8Misapplication of one person's specific calling as universal command, twisting stewardship into guilt, false asceticism as spirituality.
Jesus told that guy to sell everything, and if Jesus said it once, doesn't He mean it for everyone? Keeping anything feels like the same 'walking away sad' failure.
He stored grain for seven years—'very much, like the sand of the sea, till he stopped counting'—gathering abundance before the need arose. God called it WISDOM, not hoarding, and used it to save nations.
I REFUSE the lie that keeping provision is hoarding! IT IS WRITTEN that failing to provide for my own household is WORSE than unbelief—provision is COMMANDED! God GIVES me riches and the power to ENJOY them as His GIFT. IT IS WRITTEN in 2 Corinthians 9:8 that God gives me ALL SUFFICIENCY in ALL THINGS—that includes provision for MYSELF! Joseph stored abundance for YEARS and God called it wisdom. The BARAK blessing makes me the LENDER, which requires HAVING first! I receive, I steward, I enjoy, I give—ALL without guilt!
The Father doesn't run toward you with the robe, ring, and sandals just to watch you give them to the next person to prove you're not materialistic. He gives them to YOU because you're HIS daughter, and He wants you ENJOYING His gifts before, during, and after you bless others from your overflow.
