"This illness is punishment for sins from my past I haven't dealt with."
How it sounds in your head: I remember things I did decades ago that I'm ashamed of. Maybe God hasn't really forgiven those. Maybe this cancer is the bill coming due. Maybe I'm reaping what I sowed.
"And you, being dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, He has made alive together with Him, having forgiven you all trespasses, having wiped out the handwriting of requirements that was against us, which was contrary to us. And He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross."
-- Colossians 2:13-14Religion's karma theology mixed with Old Covenant sowing/reaping principles, ignoring that Jesus's blood CANCELED the entire sin debt and stopped the curse.
When you carry decades of regret and then disease strikes, connecting the two feels like cosmic justice. 'Reaping what you sow' sounds biblical, and guilt makes punishment feel deserved rather than fighting for healing.
Judah's most wicked king—practiced sorcery, sacrificed his sons to demons, filled Jerusalem with innocent blood. Captured, imprisoned, cried out to God—God HEARD, brought him back to Jerusalem, restored his kingdom. INSTANT forgiveness despite horrific sins.
I REFUSE the lie that sickness is punishment for my past. IT IS WRITTEN that He has FORGIVEN me ALL trespasses and WIPED OUT every charge against me. The debt was nailed to the cross—there is NOTHING LEFT to pay. IT IS WRITTEN that there is NO CONDEMNATION to those in Christ Jesus—not 'less' condemnation, NONE. I am under the BARAK blessing, the same covenant that protected Abraham when he LIED, Jacob when he DECEIVED, Judah when he committed sexual sin. My past is under the BLOOD. I receive healing NOW as my covenant right, not because I've been perfect, but because JESUS was perfect FOR me. I am forgiven, cleansed, healed—His righteousness is MINE.
The Father isn't keeping a record of past sins and sending disease as invoices—He nailed the ENTIRE DEBT to the cross and declared 'PAID IN FULL.' He's running toward you like the prodigal's father, robe and ring ready, no mention of your past, only celebration of your PRESENT sonship.
