"These intrusive thoughts prove I'm not really saved or surrendered."

How it sounds in your head: You have thoughts pop into your head that are violent, sexual, blasphemous - things you'd never choose to think. You've been taught that out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks, so these thoughts must prove your heart is still wicked. Maybe you're not really converted.

Romans 7:19

"For the good that I will to do, I do not do; but the evil I will not to do, that I practice."

-- Romans 7:19
Enemy whispers: These intrusive thoughts prove you're not saved or surrendered. BUT IT IS WRITTEN: Romans 7:19 - 'For the good that I WILL to do, I do not do; but the evil I will NOT to do, that I practice.' Paul the apostle experienced thoughts and impulses contrary to his will - it's the human condition, not proof of damnation. IT IS WRITTEN in Romans 8:1 - 'There is therefore NOW no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus.' Thoughts you don't choose and immediately reject don't condemn you - they're just noise, not your identity.
Quick Truth: LIE: Thoughts prove unsaved. TRUTH: Paul had unwanted impulses too - Romans 7:19. You're secure in Christ.

Source: Enemy - using intrusive thoughts (often OCD-related) to make you question your salvation and relationship with God.

Why this feels true:

The thoughts are terrible and they keep coming. You can't seem to stop them through prayer or Bible reading. It feels like evidence of a corrupt heart.

Job 42:7-8
Job

Job's friends tormented him with accusations that his suffering proved hidden sin. God rebuked the friends and vindicated Job, declaring 'you have not spoken of Me what is right, as My servant Job has' - Job's intrusive suffering didn't disqualify his righteousness before God.

Speak this out loud

I REFUSE the lie that intrusive thoughts define my heart or salvation. IT IS WRITTEN that even Paul experienced impulses contrary to his will - unwanted thoughts are part of living in a fallen world, not proof I'm unsaved. I am under NO condemnation because I am in Christ Jesus. IT IS WRITTEN that I have the mind of Christ and I am a new creation - my identity is not determined by thoughts I immediately reject. I stand in the BARAK blessing that covered Jacob despite his flawed thoughts and schemes - I am covered by the BETTER covenant that looks at my position IN CHRIST, not my mental noise. I declare that I am righteous by the blood of Jesus, sealed by the Holy Spirit, and secure in my Father's love regardless of intrusive thoughts. I take every thought captive to the obedience of Christ.

But God actually:

Your Father isn't reading your intrusive thoughts as evidence against you. He's running toward you with the truth that your identity is sealed in Christ - unwanted thoughts can't change your position as beloved son.
