"The church only cares about my money and attendance numbers, not about me as a person."
How it sounds in your head: Every sermon ends with a giving pitch. They track who shows up. I got three texts when I missed a Sunday but none when I was struggling. I'm a statistic, not a son.
"Shepherd the flock of God which is among you, serving as overseers, not by compulsion but willingly, not for dishonest gain but eagerly; nor as being lords over those entrusted to you, but being examples to the flock."
-- 1 Peter 5:2-3Source: religious system that prioritized institutional growth over individual souls, combined with enemy accusation that you don't matter.
You've literally heard a pastor say 'We need to hit our budget' more than 'God loves you.' You've been contacted about attendance but not about your mental health. The church growth conference mattered more than your crisis.
Zacchaeus was a corrupt tax collector—a thief, a traitor, despised by everyone—yet Jesus called him by NAME out of the tree and invited Himself to dinner. One meal, instant transformation: Zacchaeus gave half his goods to the poor and restored fourfold what he'd stolen, and Jesus declared 'Today salvation has come to this house.'
I REFUSE the lie that I'm just a number to the church or to God. IT IS WRITTEN that true shepherds serve willingly, not for gain, and the Good Shepherd knows His sheep by NAME. I am not a statistic—I am a SON for whom the Father left heaven, for whom Jesus died, for whom the Spirit groans. IT IS WRITTEN that I am fearfully and wonderfully made, that He knows the number of hairs on my head, that I am the apple of His eye. The BARAK blessing is mine—the covenant that valued Abraham enough to plague kings who touched him, that protected Jacob the deceiver, that rescued Lot from Sodom. I am the righteousness of God in Christ, and my value was declared at the cross, not in the offering plate. I am loved, known, seen, and celebrated by the God of the universe.
The Father doesn't see you as a number—He sees you as the ONE He'd leave the 99 to find. He's not counting your attendance; He's counting the moments until you realize how deeply, recklessly, completely you are LOVED, and He's running toward you with the robe and ring before you even finish your 'make me a servant' speech.
