"Real connection isn't possible for me. I'm too different, too broken."
How it sounds in your head: Other guys have their crew, their boys who actually know them. I've got surface-level friendships but no one really gets me. The real me would drive people away, so I keep the mask on.
"Two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their labor. For if they fall, one will lift up his companion. But woe to him who is alone when he falls, for he has no one to help him up."
-- Ecclesiastes 4:9-10Shame-based lie from the enemy, often rooted in childhood wounds or past betrayals, designed to keep you hidden and prevent the vulnerability that leads to breakthrough.
You've tried opening up and it backfired. Guys don't typically go deep anyway. Your struggles feel too weird or too heavy to share. You watch other friend groups and wonder what they have that you don't.
Mephibosheth was crippled, hiding, convinced he was worthless and forgotten—'a dead dog.' David instantly brought him to the king's table permanently, restoring everything, not because Mephibosheth earned it but because of covenant. Connection happened in one day.
I REFUSE the lie that real connection is impossible for me. IT IS WRITTEN that two are better than one and that iron sharpens iron. I am not too broken or too different for covenant friendship. The same God who brought Jonathan to David and who set the solitary in families is bringing me men who will know me and stay. IT IS WRITTEN in Proverbs 18:24 there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother. I am not disqualified by my mess—I am invited to the Father's table BEFORE I clean up. Connection is mine NOW.
The Father sees you hiding behind the mask and He's not waiting for you to fix yourself first. He's pulling up a chair at His table for you RIGHT NOW—crippled, messy, 'dead dog' feelings and all—because covenant sons eat at the King's table regardless of their limp.
