"Real Christians overcome mental illness through prayer alone, not therapy or medication."
How it sounds in your head: The testimony videos at church are always about people who got healed and threw away their meds. Nobody shares about still being in treatment. My friend's mom said her daughter's depression left when she 'got serious about God.' I've been praying for months and I'm not better. What's wrong with me?
"Heal me, O LORD, and I shall be healed; save me, and I shall be saved, for You are my praise."
-- Jeremiah 17:14Performance-based religion that defines 'real Christianity' by refusing medical help, creating hierarchy of faith-maturity.
She only sees curated testimonies of instant healing, never ongoing treatment stories, creating survivor bias. Her continued need for help feels like evidence she's not a 'real' Christian or hasn't prayed 'right.'
She had bleeding for TWELVE YEARS and 'spent all her livelihood on physicians' before encountering Jesus. He didn't say 'Why did you waste money on doctors instead of finding Me sooner?'—He called her 'daughter' and commended her FAITH even after years of medical treatment.
I REFUSE the lie that real Christians overcome illness without help. IT IS WRITTEN that even the woman Jesus commended spent YEARS trying medical treatment before her healing. My faith isn't measured by refusing treatment—it's a GIFT, not an achievement. I am a REAL Christian because of the blood, not because of my mental health status. IT IS WRITTEN in Romans 8:1 there is NO condemnation for me in Christ—not when I pray, not when I take medication, not when I see a therapist. The BARAK blessing means I'm blessed coming in and going out, in doctor's offices and prayer rooms alike.
Your Father isn't keeping a tally of 'real' vs 'fake' Christians based on treatment methods. He sees you as His DAUGHTER—period. The thief on the cross never went to therapy, never read a self-help book, never 'overcame' anything, and Jesus said 'TODAY you'll be with Me in paradise.' You're just as much His as anyone else.
