"Needing medication for mental health proves I haven't overcome or that I'm stuck in bondage."
How it sounds in your head: I see people at church who 'overcame' depression without meds, praising God for deliverance. Why am I still in this? Does my prescription mean I'm not really free? Am I still in bondage while others have victory?
"And He said to me, 'My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.' Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me."
-- 2 Corinthians 12:9Charismatic triumphalism that measures spiritual victory by visible freedom from all symptoms and treatments.
She's been taught that 'more than conquerors' means total victory over every physical manifestation. Her ongoing need for medication feels like she's still losing a battle others have won.
Paul had a 'thorn in the flesh' he asked God to remove three times. God refused, saying 'My grace is sufficient.' Paul continued his ministry with the thorn, experiencing God's power THROUGH it, not after removing it.
I REFUSE the lie that medication means I haven't overcome. IT IS WRITTEN that God's grace is sufficient for me, and His strength is made perfect in weakness. Paul asked three times for deliverance and God said 'My grace is enough' - and Paul went on to write most of the New Testament WITH his thorn. My medication is not bondage; it's the delivery system for God's sustaining grace. IT IS WRITTEN that I am MORE than a conqueror - not because I have no struggles, but because in ALL these things, nothing can separate me from God's love. I am victorious IN Christ, medication and all.
Your Father is running toward you saying 'My grace is SUFFICIENT - you don't have to be symptom-free to be victorious.' He's celebrating your courage to keep going WITH support, not waiting for you to white-knuckle it alone.
