"If I really trusted God, I wouldn't need therapy or counseling - just prayer and Bible reading."
How it sounds in your head: My youth pastor said counseling is just worldly wisdom. If Scripture is enough, why do I still feel this broken? Maybe I'm not spiritual enough to be fixed by God alone.
"Where there is no counsel, the people fall; but in the multitude of counselors there is safety."
-- Proverbs 11:14Source: religion - false super-spirituality that rejects God's wisdom working through trained helpers, leaving the broken isolated and ashamed.
You've been told the Bible has all the answers, so needing professional help feels like admitting Scripture isn't working for you. The guilt makes you hide how much you're actually struggling.
Moses was burning out trying to judge all Israel's disputes alone. His father-in-law Jethro counseled him to delegate and create a support system - secular wisdom from a non-Israelite priest! Moses immediately received it, and God blessed the counsel.
I REFUSE the lie that seeking counseling means I don't trust God. IT IS WRITTEN that in the multitude of counselors there is safety, and that God gives wisdom to people. My therapist's insight is not competing with Scripture - it's God's wisdom working through a trained mind to help me process trauma and renew my thoughts. IT IS WRITTEN that I am blessed coming in and going out, and that blessing includes mental and emotional wholeness. I receive help from every source my Father sends, knowing He works through people.
Your Father isn't offended that you need a counselor - He's the One who placed that person in your path! He's celebrating that you're brave enough to get help, running toward you with support from every angle because your wholeness matters more than religious performance.
